Money market funds were the shelter as the stock market correction happened in December 2022 and deposit rates increased by year-end. But, we see the deposit rates have normalized in January 2023 because of the liquidity that banks possess. Higher liquidity in the banking system was caused by the last transaction execution of SKB (Surat Keputusan Bersama Bank Indonesia and Ministry of Finance) at the end of December when Bank Indonesia bought Indonesian Government bonds. The proceeds have been placed by the Ministry of Finance in the banking system causing the deposit rate to inch down. We think deposit rates can improve again as credit growth is still strong. Additionally, we also see BI can pause in rate hiking as the exchange rate of the Rupiah stabilizes and inflation is under control.<\/p>\n
